Local service opportunities

"I will teach you to be gentle, kind and loving, in the midst of a world of violence and self-centeredness. I will show you how to become a man or woman of peace, and hope. Corpus Christi College students work in a variety of local service agencies in short-term and longer-term volunteer capacities. The College has established relationships with:

• The Door Is Open (soup kitchen operated by the Archdiocese)

• Habitat for Humanity (provider of homes for low-income families)

• UBC Farm (productive research farm cultivating sustainable agricultural methods)

• Immaculate Conception Elementary School

• UBC Learning Exchange (successful university program that places volunteers in schools and non-profit organizations)

The College continually seeks new partners to provide students with a variety of service opportunities to meet their interests, gifts, and talents. You can begin your service work at any time in the term and design your placement to accommodate your work, academic, and other schedules.

Volunteering in your community is an excellent way to explore the needs of your community and to give you firsthand insight into your own ideas and values. Many students find that their volunteer experience directed them to their career choices or path of study in university.

Increasingly, universities and employers are looking for students with a diversity of life experiences in their search for optimal candidates. Increasingly, science demonstrates the interconnectedness of all being; by contributing to our communities, we inevitably better ourselves.
